New Delhi: As the last rites of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat will be held on Friday, the Indian Army has issued a web link that can be accessed by all Indians, giving an opportunity to everyone to pay tributes to the former Army Chief who was killed in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu on December 8.
The Army took to its official Twitter account saying, “Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it; it flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.”

Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brigadier Lakhwinder Singh Lidder, 10 other militray personnel, including Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Wing Commander PS Chauhan, Squadron Leader K Singh, JWO Das, JWO Pradeep A, Havildar Satpal, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitender Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar and Lance Naik Sai Teja, were killed when the IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, they were on board, crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, Gen Rawat and 12 others who were killed in the fatal chopper crash, will be cremated today.
The lone survivor of the helicopter crash, Group Captain Varun Singh, is currently under treatment at a military hospital in Bengaluru.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the country’s top military brass on Thursday paid homage to Gen Rawat and others at the Palam airbase after their bodies were brought to Delhi in a military aircraft.
