Union Minister Piyush Goyal reviews progress made under PM GatiShakti National Master
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal reviewed the progress made under PM GatiShakti National Master Plan for holistic and integrated planning for infrastructure. The National Master Plan will help in achieving the objective of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat by providing visibility to various stakeholders involved in the development of infrastructure.
It will incorporate the infrastructure schemes of various Ministries and State Governments. Economic Zones like textile clusters, pharmaceutical clusters, defense corridors, electronic parks, industrial corridors, fishing clusters, and Agri zones will also be covered under the master plan. This will boost economic growth, attract investments and enhance the country’s global competitiveness. Highlighting the potential of the PM GatiShakti, Mr. Goyal said that improved multimodal connectivity to various economic zones will ensure seamless movement of goods and people.
During the meeting, the Ministry-wise progress on the targets set under the PM GatiShakti was discussed. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has completed more than one lakh forty-one thousand kilometers of National Highways as of last month. The Ministry has set a target of two lakh Kilometers of National Highways for 2024-25.
Similarly, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has completed laying of a gas pipeline of twenty thousand kilometers. The Ministry of Power has already surpassed its target for laying the transmission network of four lakh fifty-four thousand kilometers by the end of March 2022. The Department of Telecommunication has created the Optical Fibre Cable network of over thirty-three lakh kilometers as of 31st March this year against the target of 50 lakh kilometers for 2024-25.
