Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar says despite pandemic, country’s agriculture sector registers growth rate of 3.9%
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that despite the pandemic, the country’s agriculture sector has registered a growth rate of 3.9% as of now. He said, this has been possible because of the agriculture-friendly policies of the government of India and the hard labour of the farming community.
Addressing an agri-conclave organised by a private TV news channel in capital Bhubaneswar today, the Union Agriculture Minister said the country’s agriculture export too has touched four lakh crore mark which is a significant achievement.
AIR correspondent reports, Highlighting the fact that almost half of the country’s population depends on agriculture, Mr. Tomar underlined the need of employment generation in the agriculture and allied sector itself so as to absorb the additional manpower.
He said, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has been working towards increasing not only production but also productivity of the agriculture and allied sector through increased investment, infrastructure creation and technology intervention.
The minister said that the government has initiated a number of steps that aim at augmenting the quality of agri products while ensuring remunerative prices for the farmers, market linkages and export potential of the country’s agri-products.
