Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh says, India remains committed to combating menace of corruption

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said, India has adopted zero tolerance towards corruption under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the BRICS Anti-Corruption Ministerial virtual meeting in New Delhi today, Dr. Singh said, Central Government has taken several steps to end corruption in the last eight years. He said, the decision had been taken to include new provisions in the Prevention of Corruption Act. He pointed out that the institution of Lokpal has been operationalized by appointment of Chairperson and Members.

Dr. Singh stressed that implementation of e-Governance through effective use of information and communications technology has reduced the scope of corruption at all levels. He said, steps including MCA 21, fully automated Income Tax compliances, commercial taxes compliances, passport & visa services, Digi Locker, pensions’ services, Direct Benefit Transfers through Aadhaar Payment Bridge, and Common Services Centres have played important role in curbing corruption.

He pointed out that systemic improvements and reforms have been made to provide transparent citizen-friendly services and disbursement of welfare benefits directly to the citizens.

The Minister called for effective implementation of the FATF Anti-Money Laundering and counter-terrorism financing standards. He asked the BRICS member countries to bring such processes, where fugitive economic offenders can be traced and extradited faster and their properties situated abroad brought within the reach of the law of the land from which such offenders escape.
