UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid arrives in India on a two-day visit
Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra called on UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid in New Delhi . The UNGA President arrived in New Delhi this morning, on a two-day visit to India.
Mr. Kwatra congratulated him on his ‘Presidency of Hope’ and for his visionary leadership in the 76th session of the UNGA. They also discussed further deepening of India’s strong bilateral relations with the Maldives.
Mr. Abdulla Shahid is also scheduled to meet Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and discuss the ongoing issues at the General Assembly, and India’s engagement with the United Nations.
Mr. Shahid, who was the foreign minister of the Maldives, made India his first stop in July last year after his election the previous month. During that visit, he met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and PM Modi. India had backed Mr. Shahid’s candidature for the Assembly presidency.
