Train services between Jayanagar (Bihar) and Kurtha in Nepal to start from Saturday
Train services between Jayanagar (Bihar) in India and Kurtha in Nepal, a stretch of 34.5 km will start from Saturday. East Central Railway Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) Birendra Kumar told AIR Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepal counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba will jointly inaugurate jointly passenger train services between two countries through video conferencing from Hyderabad House in New Delhi tomorrow.
The CPRO said the launch of the much-awaited rail services between India and Nepal will give further impetus to bilateral relations between the two countries.
Indian citizens wishing to travel by this train to Kurtha in Nepal will have to carry with themselves a photo identity card issued by the central or state governments, a voter identity card issued by the Election Commission of India or identity cards issued by the Indian Embassy in Nepal.
Ministry of external affairs (MEA) had sanctioned Rs 784 crore for this ambitious project. The first and second phases of project between Jayanagar and Kurtha and Bijalpura and Kurtha respectively have already been completed. The CPRO East Central Railway said work on the third phase between Bijalpura and Bardibas, a stretch of 69 km is in full swing. The rail service between Jaynagar and Bijalpura in Nepal had been introduced for the first time in 1937 by the Britishers. However, it was suspended in 2001 after the devastating floods in Nepal uprooted rail tracks completely.
