In recognition of the farmers’ struggle against the repeal of the three Central farm laws, Congress will observe ‘Kisan Vijay Diwas’ across the country today.
Welcoming the Modi government’s decision, the grand old party termed it is as a “victory of the farmers.”
“The victory is dedicated to all the Annadatas of our country, in recognition of their consistent and spirited fight against the flawed decisions of the tyrannical government,” read the statement.
Congress leaders to meet families of farmers who lost their lives
Party workers and leaders will join the farmers to observe the “historic victory” and will also be visiting families of farmers who lost their lives in their areas and pay homage to them.
Alleging that over 700 farmers have lost their lives, Congress said that it will also hold candle marches to pray for the departed souls.
“Pradesh Congress Committees, District Committees and Block Committees will be holding press conferences marking the victory of the farmer’s struggle and the repeal of the laws. Kisan Vijay Rallies/Kisan Vijay Sabhas will be organised on behalf of the farmers at state and district headquarters,” the party said.
Victory of the willpower, struggle of 62 crore farmers: Sonia Gandhi
This comes after Rahul Gandhi in an open letter to farmers, congratulated them on their victory and assured them of his party’s support in their future struggles.
Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi termed farmers’ protest as “Gandhian agitation” and said that it is a victory of the “willpower” and “struggle” of 62 crore farmers.
Farmers had been protesting at different sites since November 26 last year against the three enacted farm laws.
The constitutional formalities to revoke the laws will be done in Parliament’s winter session beginning from November 29.
Alarmed by the anti-BJP sentiments in poll-bound Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, the saffron party expects that this decision will placate Sikhs, who are in a majority in the border state of Punjab, and Jats, who are dominant in the western region of UP.
