There is a possibility of direct mobile broadcast with launch of 5G: I&B Secretary, Mr. Apurva Chandra

Information and Broadcasting, Secretary, Mr. Apurva Chandra has said with the launch of 5G in next few days, there is a possibility of direct mobile broadcast. Speaking at the FICCI Frames 2022 in Mumbai, Mr. Apurva Chandra said that Prasar Bharati has collaborated with IIT Kanpur and has come up with a concept where through a small attachment with smart phone, more than 20 channels can be viewed and this will usher in a revolution.    

The secretary assured that the I&B ministry is the facilitator, and will do everything possible to support the media and entertainment industry.  

Speaking about Invest India, the I&B Secretary said that more than 100 billion dollars of FDI is coming to India this year. He said the government wants to take advantage of Invest India to attract investment in Media and Entertainment Industry as well. Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will partner with Invest India to reach out to foreign countries and filmmakers to shoot films in India and collaborate in this endeavour.

He further said that he had a meeting with industry player regarding the proposed Cinematography Act amendments which also focusses on anti-piracy. He added that these amendments will be tabled in the in the coming winter session of parliament.
