Tech today is a critical tool to deliver on democratic governance: EAM
The 6th edition of Global Technology Summit (GTS) was held today. This year the Summit is organized in a hybrid format but due to the exceptional circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, physical attendance is on an invite-basis only.
On the first day of the summit, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson delivered a virtual special address. ‘’With our shared culture of innovation & our entrepreneurial spirit, the UK & India are natural partners. We’re working together on many fantastic projects, from the UK- India partnership on 5G and telecom to the UK startups who are working with Indian giants,” said Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson.
He further said that, “Over the coming decade, we will continue to deepen our bonds on tech & other areas as we’ve set out in the 2030 India-UK roadmap.’’
In one of the sessions, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a conversation with C. Raja Mohan, Director at ISAS, National University of Singapore where he laid the emphasis on initiating fresh dialogues that has democratized foreign policy as they satisfy various objectives.
EAM Dr S Jaishankar called Technology a metric of a nation’s standing. He also underlined that adequate attention was not conferred towards the technology; “We viewed technology in a limited way. Either promotional way or overcoming denial issue,” he said.
“When we talk about supply chains, we need to look at our domestic supply chains. We cannot have jobless growth,” External Affairs Minister said.
On Quad grouping the EAM said that the Quad is looking at practical subjects that will actually make a difference. On activities with the new group, EAM stated that the new group – US, UAE, Israel, and India – some part of it will be technology focussed, whether it’s in digital or green technology or in start-ups. Each has a significance of its own, Jaishankar said.
“We have a positive view of nuclear technology but there is a new challenge today. The whole issue of trusted technology today has entered a different phase,” said EAM Dr S Jaishankar.
