Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launches nationwide programs on World Bicycle Day today

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launched the nationwide Fit India Freedom Rider Cycle Rally at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi on World Bicycle Day this morning.

On the occasion, Mr. Thakur along with Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and  Kiren Rijiju as well as seven hundred fifty Young Cyclists pedaled seven and a half-kilometre distance.

As India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has taken a unique step to organise this bicycle rally. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Thakur urged people to use bicycles to promote the FIT India campaign.

The cycle rallies are being conducted by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan at 75 iconic places across the country during which 75 participants will cover the distance of seven and a half-kilometre distance.

More than nine lakh sixty-eight thousand kilometres distance will be covered by one lakh twenty-nine thousand young cyclists through the Bicycle Rallies in a single day today.

The aim of this programme is to motivate people to take up and adopt cycling in their daily lives for physical fitness activities.

In Telangana, Bicycle Rallies are being held at three places to create awareness about environment friendly activities. The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan of the Union Youth Affairs Ministry is organising this as part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav coinciding with the World Bicycle Day today.

NYKS state director A R Vijaya Rao informed that 7.5 kilo meters long rallies will witness participation of people, public representatives, the eminent people from various sectors and members of local Bicycle Club. Bicycle rallies will also be held at block level in 10 districts of the state till 10th of this month.
