Siddaramaiah formally elected Congress parliamentary party leader; To take oath as Karnataka CM on 20th May
The Congress Legislative Party meeting held in Bengaluru today has elected senior leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as the new legislative party leader and the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. Another senior leader D K Shivakumar was elected as the Deputy Chief Minister. Both CM and DCM elect met Governor Thawarchand Gehlot to stake a claim for the Government. After the Congress gained a majority in the May 10 Assembly election, deliberations were on in New Delhi to elect the new legislative party leader as both Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar had claimed the post.
Finally, the name of Siddaramaiah was made public in the morning today. The Swearing-in ceremony will be held on May 20 afternoon when the Governor will administer the oath of office to Siddaramaiah as CM, D K Shivakumar as Deputy CM and a few other MLAs as Ministers. Both Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar returned from Delhi in the evening today. On arrival, the Congress workers welcomed them by showering flowers and bursting crackers.
