Russia-Ukraine crisis: US Embassy in Moscow warns of attacks at malls, public gatherings
Amid ongoing escalations in the Russia-Ukraine row, the US Mission in Russia has warned of attacks against shopping centers, metro stations, and public gatherings across Russia, including major cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg. In an alert issued on the official website of the US Embassy in Russia, citizens have been asked to avoid crowds and carry identification at all times.
“According to media sources, there have been threats of attacks against shopping centers, railway and metro stations, and other public gathering places in major urban areas, including Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as in areas of heightened tension along the Russian border with Ukraine,” the US Embassy said.
Avoid crowds, have evacuation plans that do not rely on US govt
In the alert, the Embassy urged US citizens in Russia to monitor local and international media for updates, avoid crowds, stay alert in locations frequented by tourists and have evacuation plans that do not rely on US government assistance.
Earlier today, the White House said that the US President had ‘in-principle’ agreed to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki made the announcement after French President Emmanuel Macron held a four-hour telephonic conversation with Putin and brokered the negotiations between Washington and Moscow.
