RBI postpones MPC meet to Feb 8 as Maharashtra declares public holiday

The Reserve Bank of India has rescheduled its Monetary Policy Committee meeting following Maharashtra government declaring a public holiday today to mourn the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

In a release issued yesterday evening, the RBI said the last Monetary Policy Committee meeting of the financial year which was to be held from 7th -9th  February will now be held from 8th to 10th February.

The Committee meets on a bi-monthly basis to review the key lending rates including the repo and reverse repo rates.

In a separate statement, RBI also stated that there will be no transactions and settlements in Government securities (primary and secondary), foreign exchange, money markets and Rupee Interest Rate Derivatives today.

It said settlement of all outstanding transactions will accordingly get postponed to the next working day i.e., February 8.
