Sikkim is celebrating its 47th State Day today. It was on 16th May 1975 that the erstwhile kingdom became a part of India as its 22nd state.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have wished the people of Sikkim on the occasion. In a tweet, the President said, Sikkim has set an example before the rest of the country in organic farming and adopting the path of sustainable development. My best wishes to all the residents of Sikkim for continued growth and prosperity, he added.
Wishing people happiness and good health, Mr Modi, in a tweet, said, the people of Sikkim have distinguished themselves in diverse fields and are making rich contributions to national progress. May the people of the state be blessed with happiness and good health, he added.
AIR correspondent reports that in a message, Sikkim governor Ganga Prasad said, today is the day when Sikkim became part of mainstream democracy to progress on the path of development and unity and since then, the state has created a global identity. Chief minister PS Tamang said, on this fateful day, Sikkim opted for democracy, and from that moment onwards, Sikkimese people have contributed to the development and prosperity of our nation, integrating a deep bond with the country. He said, Sikkim has made significant strides in the last 47 years, creating a unique identity. He expressed gratitude to all governors and chief ministers and legislatures of the state for their contribution to the development and prosperity of the state.
