PM Narendra Modi to chair Council of Ministers meeting today; Omicron, postponement of Assembly polls likely to be discussed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Council of Ministers later today. Omicron, deliberation on the postponement of Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and other states are among key issues that are likely to be discussed during the Council of Ministers meeting today. According to reports, the meeting is likely to take place by 4 pm. All the ministers are expected to attend the Council meeting.

As reported earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taking stock of Omicron status in the country. The Centre has previously issued guidelines to states and Union Territories to intensify testing and ensure implementation of COVID-19 protocols in states/ UTs.

PM reviewing Omicron situation in the country

Last week, PM had also taken stock of the COVID-19/ Omicron situation in the country and even directed Central government officials to send teams to states to assist them for effective implementation of vaccination programmes. On December 25, PM Modi also announced that children between the age group of 15-18 will be able to get vaccinated. Further, ‘precautionary doses’ have also been given a go-ahead for people above the age of 60 from January 2022.
