PM Narendra Modi pays tribute to former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe during state funeral in Tokyo

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the State funeral ceremony in Tokyo today. After arriving in Japan, Mr Modi conveyed his condolences on the tragic demise of Shinzo Abe. Mr. Modi said that he had a fruitful meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. He felt more saddened. He also recalled that last time, he had a very long conversation with Abe and he never thought that after leaving the country, he would have to hear such news.

The Prime Minister said that he is confident that under new leadership, India-Japan relations will deepen further and scale to greater heights. Mr Modi said, he firmly believed that New Delhi and Tokyo will be able to play an appropriate role in finding solutions to the problems of the world.

The state funeral of former Japanese Prime minister Shinzo Abe is underway in Tokyo. His ashes were carried into Tokyo’s Budokan hall by his widow Akie Abe where thousands of mourners have gathered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other world leaders are attending the State Funeral.

Earlier, PM Modi during his bilateral meeting with Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida this morning, conveyed his deepest condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He noted the contributions of late Prime Minister Abe in strengthening India-Japan partnership as well as conceptualizing the vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

The two leaders had a productive exchange of views on further deepening bilateral relations. They also discussed a number of regional and global issues. The leaders renewed their commitment towards further strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and in working together in the region and in various international groupings and institutions. Mr Modi reached Tokyo in the wee hours this morning.
