PM Modi welcomes UK PM Boris Johnson at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson today at New Delhi. The UK Prime Minister who is on a two-day visit to India arrived in New Delhi earlier on Thursday after completing first leg of his visit to Gujarat.

Extending a warm welcome to the visiting UK PM Johnson, PM Modi said, “Wonderful to see you, my friend PM Boris Johnson in India on a long-awaited visit. Look forward to our discussions today.”

Prime Minister Modi received Prime Minister Johnson with full state fervour at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan today morning. The UK Prime Minister who is on his maiden visit to India after acquiring the top seat was also accorded with ceremonial Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

“Thank you for the fantastic welcome. This is a very auspicious moment in the relationship and friendship between two democracies- India and UK. I don’t think the things have ever been strong or as good between India and UK as they are now,” said the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Following the completion ofti his engagement at Rashtrapati Bhavan, PM Boris Johnson arrived at Rajghat and paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi. Paying his obeisance to Mahatma Gandhi, PM Johnson said, “This extraordinary man…mobilised such simple principles of truth and non-violence to change the world for the better.”

Later in the day, PM Modi and PM Johnson are scheduled to hold in-depth talks at Hyderabad House on range of issues of mutual interest. According to the statement issued by the UK PM’s office, “the leaders will hold in-depth talks on UK and India’s strategic defence, diplomatic and economic partnership, aimed at bolstering our close partnership and stepping up security co-operation in the Indo-Pacific.”

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the India-UK relationship, which was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021, is all set to forge ahead with this visit.

EAM Dr. S Jaishankar calls on UK PM Johnson

External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar today met UK PM Boris Johnson during his India visit.

“Discussed our expanding partnership and implementing the #IndiaUK Roadmap 2030,” EAM Dr. S Jaishankar said.
