PM Modi to meet top police officials from all states in Lucknow; Amit Shah, Ajit Doval to attend

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Saturday meet the senior police officials in Lucknow at the 56th Conference of Director Generals of Police (DGP) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGP).

The two-day security conference in Uttar Pradesh capital will also be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has written to PM Modi, requesting him not to share dais with Union minister Ajay Mishra, whose son has been arrested in connection with the violence in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri.

“PM Modi should not attend the DGP and IG conference in Lucknow. I have written to him on the same. If he is genuinely concerned about farmers, he should not share the dais with Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra whose son is an accused in Lakhimpur Kheri case,” she said.

The event being held in a hybrid format will be attended by physically DGPs of states and Union Territories, as well as heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations, while the remaining invitees will participate virtually from 37 different locations at IB/SIB headquarters.

The issues that will come up for discussion at the meeting includes cybercrime, data governance, counter-terrorism challenges, left wing extremism, emerging trends in narcotics trafficking, prison reforms among others.

“Since 2014, the Prime Minister has taken a keen interest in the DGP conference. Unlike the symbolic presence earlier, he makes it a point to attend all sessions of the conference and encourages free and informal discussions that provide an opportunity to top police officials to directly brief the Prime Minister on key policing and internal security issues affecting the country,” an official statement read.

Since 2014, the annual conferences, which used to be customarily organised in Delhi, have been organised outside Delhi with an exception of the year 2020 when the conference was held virtually.

The conference was held in Guwahati in 2014, in Gujarat’s Dhordo in 2015; in Hyderabad in 2016, in Madhya Pradesh’s Tekanpur in 2017, in Gujarat’s Kevadiya in 2018; and Pune in 2019.
