PM Modi interacts with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, owners of Janaushadhi Kendras
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Government is working to strengthen health infrastructure in the country keeping in mind the future challenges it has a set a goal to open at least one medical college in every districts of the country. He said this in an interaction with the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana and the owners of Janaushadhi Kendras via video conferencing today.
Mr. Modi said, even after so many decades of independence, there was only one AIIMS in the country, but now 22 AIIMS are functional. He said, more than eight and a half thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been functional, which are now becoming solution centers for the common man. Mr Modi highlighted over 800 crore rupees medicines have been sold through Jan Aushadhi Kendras in this financial year and the poor and middle-class people have saved around five thousand crore rupees through the Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
Prime Minister said, the government has also controlled the price of more than 800 medicines required for the treatment of diseases including cancer, tuberculosis, diabetes and heart disease. He stressed that it has also been ensured that the cost of stenting and knee implants remains under control. Mr. Modi said the centre has decided that half the seats in private medical colleges will attract the same fees as government medical colleges which will benefit the poor and middle-class children.
While interacting, Prime Minister asked a Jan Aushadhi Yojana beneficiary how the scheme has helped her financially. She said earlier the medicines used to cost her 1500 to 1600 rupees but now with this scheme, it now cost between 250 to 300 rupees.
On the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas today, Health Minister Manuskh Mandaviya said Jan Aushadhi Yojana has brought in a revolution in the country. Jan Aushadhi week is also being celebrated across the country from 1st March to generate awareness about the usage of generic medicines and benefits of Janaushadhi Pariyojana.
AIR correspondent reports, in this week, various events such as Jan Aushadhi Sankalp Yatra, Matri Shakti Samman, Jan Aushadhi Bal Mitra, Jan Aushadhi Jan Jagran Abhiyan, Aao Jan Aushadhi Mitra Baney and Jan Aushadhi Jan Arogya Mela have been organised. Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana is a noble initiative of the Government which is making an impact on masses in its endeavour to provide quality medicines at an affordable price.
