PM Modi congratulates Macron on poll-win, likely to meet French President next week
Congratulating French President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as the President of France (second time), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the strategic partnership between the two countries will deepen. In a tweet, PM Modi said, “Congratulations to my friend Emmanuel Macron on being re-elected as the President of France! I look forward to continue working together to deepen the India-France Strategic Partnership.”
PM Narendra Modi is likely to visit three European Countries next week i.e. Germany, Denmark and France. Apart from speaking at the crucial India-Nordic summit in Copenhagen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to travel to Europe from May 2 to May 6 for bilateral meetings with re-elected French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
PM Modi to meet Macron to strengthen India-France Ties
Following Macron’s re-election as President of France with a landslide victory, PM Modi is expected to visit Paris to meet and greet the leader of one of India’s closest bilateral partners.
Apart from sharing similar views on the Indo-Pacific, India and France have very close political and defence ties, with both sides willing to assist each other in areas of critical and emerging technologies. In addition to mapping the Indian Ocean bed, India and France are expected to move forward on PM Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat project by manufacturing air independent propulsion submarines and high thrust aircraft engines in India.
PM Modi and President Macron have a personal relationship, and the latter is aware of India’s position on the Ukraine-Russia conflict. With Russia’s Ukraine campaign continuing apace, the war in Europe may be at the top of PM Modi’s agenda during his visit to the Nordic countries, with Germany reconsidering its stance on Moscow.
PM Modi may also try to rekindle the bilateral relationship with German Chancellor Scholz, despite the fact that the exact date and time of his meetings are still being worked out.
Investment, clean technologies, and trade is likely to be high on PM Modi’s agenda, as he pushes for closer bilateral relations with Nordic countries and a repaired relationship with host Denmark. The Nordic countries, unlike in the past, want to maintain close ties with India.
