Parliament UPDATES: Rahul Gandhi alleges Oppn ‘not allowed to speak’ amid demand for MoS Home Ajay Mishra’s removal over Lakhimpur violence
The Lakhimpur Kheri violence and suspension of 12 Opposition MPs from Rajya Sabha has triggered a ruckus in the Parliament during the ongoing Winter Session, forcing the Upper House to adjourn proceedings till 12 noon.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has moved an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident demanding the removal of Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra over the alleged involvement of his son in the incident on October 3.
Congress chief whip in Lok Sabha K Suresh too demanded the immediate stepping down of Misra “so that a fair investigation is carried out, the culprits are brought to book and farmers are delivered justice”.
On Tuesday, a local court allowed an SIT probe into the Lakhimpur Kheri violence to include the charge of ‘attempt to murder’ in the FIR against the perpetrators, including Mishra’s son, since the investigating team noted that “it was a pre-planned conspiracy”.
The magistrate agreed to replace charges such as ‘death caused by negligence’ with that of ‘attempt to murder’ (section 307) over the death of eight people, including four farmers, in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.
The FIR already mentions IPC sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
