NIPER Research Portal to facilitate research & innovation in pharmaceutical sector

India is the third-largest pharmaceutical manufacturing country and to make the research more purposeful and meaningful in the sector, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has launched the Research Portal of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER).

Significance of the portal:

The Research Portal has been developed with an aim to disseminate the information about all the NIPERs and their research activities, patents filed and Publication information in one place so that industry and other stakeholders know about them. The platform will track the research and tasks of all NIPERS.

The goal of this portal is to authenticate the availability of ongoing research work. It will assist other researchers, particularly those in the industry, in contacting the appropriate organization so that they can collaborate and make the research more purposeful and meaningful. For a long time, research institutes have worked in silos or in isolation.

Reiterating the vision of PM Narendra Modi of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, and Jai Anusandhaan, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated that Research & Development is one of the most important pillars for a country’s economy. ‘’We need to harness this energy of aspirations of all stakeholders and create a holistic ecosystem. Our expertise in generics can also be further expanded to other sectors,’’ he added.

The Union Minister emphasized the importance of healthy competition in both industry and academia, noting that competition and demand are necessary for research and innovation because they promote quality ideas and solutions for citizens. He highlighted the importance of research and innovation in ensuring the pharmaceutical industry’s long-term growth.

According to the Minister, the country already has a lot of young talent and human resources, but we need to channel them effectively through Industry-Academia collaboration. He explained that the Department of Pharmaceuticals created this Research Portal to capture the research activities of all seven NIPERs in order to improve industry-academia collaboration. He stated that the platform would aid in promoting this synergy and would be beneficial to our industries, particularly the MSME sector.

The research portal will attempt to bring together research institutions from various departments of government, as well as these institutions and industries. The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers also requested that all relevant research institutions, such as the Department of Biotechnology, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Ministry of AYUSH, ICMR, and others, as well as DRDO, where a lot of pharmaceuticals sector-related research is conducted, join this portal.
