New Delhi: Two-day workshop cum orientation programme on Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2022 begins 

A two-day workshop cum orientation programme on Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2022 started today in New Delhi. The Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2022 campaign is being implemented from April to November this year.

Speaking on this occasion, Secretary of Department of Water Resources in Jal Shakti Ministry Pankaj Kumar stressed water conservation and rainwater harvesting. Pointing toward the depleting water level and increase in water demand, he said, advance planning to catch the rain is being implemented under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. He expressed hope that significant progress will be made this year under the campaign. Highlighting the importance of water bodies, he said, 75 water bodies will be created or rejuvenated in every district which will be called Amrit Sarovars.

Secretary of Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development Ajay Tirkey highlighted the importance of watershed management in rain water harvesting and conservation. He said, a total of one thousand 99 projects have been sanctioned under the watershed development component Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana. Terming India a global leader in watershed management, he said, 478 districts have been covered and a total area of 4.92 million hectares have been sanctioned under the watershed development component.

Catch the Rain campaign was launched to create rain water harvesting structures across the country before the onset of monsoon.
