Ministry of Defence sets target of one lakh 75 thousand crore rupees of defence production by 2025

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that his Ministry has set a target of one lakh 75 thousand crore rupees of defence production by 2025, which includes the export of 35 thousand crore rupees.

He expressed confidence that the Defence Public Sector Undertakings, DPSUs, will play a major role in achieving this goal with a contribution of 70 to 80 per cent.

He was addressing the officials of DPSUs during a workshop organised by the Department of Defence Production in New Delhi today. Mr. Singh exhorted the Non-Official Directors (NODs) of DPSUs to ensure smooth implementation of various initiatives taken by the government towards achieving ‘Aatmanirbharta in Defence’.

He asserted that the country is witnessing a transitional phase towards self-reliance, and active and collective efforts are central to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

The Minister termed NODs as vigil keepers who keep a close watch on the strategy, performance, risk management, resources, key appointments, and standards of conduct of DPSUs. He urged NODs to introduce best practices prevalent in the private sector to help DPSUs reach their goals and share insights and guidance in policy making.
