Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari emphasizes use of alternative fuels to reduce pollution
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the new National Highway which is being constructed between Delhi to Dehradun will be completed by the end of this year.
He said, it will help reduce the travel time and the distance between the two cities will be covered within two hours. The Minister said this while addressing INSIGHT 2022: International Conference on Sustainable and Innovative Finance in New Delhi today.
Mr. Gadkari informed that the government is making good roads and the plan is to cover the distance between Delhi to Haridwar within two hours, Delhi to Chandigarh within 2 hours 30 minutes, Delhi to Srinagar within 8 hours and Delhi to Mumbai within 12 hours.
Speaking on making the transport sector economically viable, Mr. Gadkari stressed the need to use alternative fuels like electric, ethanol, methanol, bio CNG and green hydrogen by discouraging the use of diesel and petrol. He said this will not only reduce pollution but also save the cost.
The Minister also stressed the need of discouraging the use of personal vehicles and promoting maximum use of public transport. He said the plan of his Ministry is to make E- Road between Delhi to Jaipur and also going to launch an electric truck next month.
He informed that currently total toll collection is 40 thousand crore rupees a year and it is expected to go up one lakh 40 thousand crore rupees by the end of 2024.
