J&K retrieves around 40 kanal of Kashmiri Pandit’s encroached land in Valley in just 20 days.
While the campaign to resettle displaced Kashmiri Hindus to their homeland is aggressively under consideration, the Jammu and Kashmir Administration in the last 20 days, have vacated 40 kanals of land belonging to the Kashmiri Hindus community encroached by the land mafia in the Kashmir valley.
As per the report that as the campaign to remove the encroachment on the houses, shops and farms belonged to the displaced Kashmiri Hindus has gained momentum; the administration has vacated 40 kanals of land from the land mafia and illegal occupation in the last 20 days in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir alone.
“In Srinagar district too, the administration has resolved around 660 such complaints while legal actions against the officials who had falsified the land property documents of Kashmir Pandits, have also been initiated,” they said.
Though, in certain cases, the complaints were found to be baseless, the exercise has been intensified.
“About 1000 complaints were received by the Anantnag Administration and on investigation, it was found that there is illegal encroachment on the land at many places,” an official said and added, “we found cases of illegal occupation at 22 places and it was resolved. Out of about 1000 complaints received on the official portal, 382 were investigated till September 26 and only 22 of them turned out to be correct while the rest were bogus”.
Kashmiri Hindus had migrated from the Valley during 1989-90 due to sudden spurt in the terrorist activities and threats.
Only about 800 Kashmiri Hindu families remained in the valley and the rest migrated to parts of the country.
After this, many people occupied the property of the displaced community.
“According to the instructions issued by the office of the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the government has prepared an online portal where the displaced community can get details of their property freed and vacated from the encroachers,” said an official.
“In 95 percent complainants, the complainants are not aware that their elders have sold the land under the Anti-Distress Sales Act and those who have purchased such properties, have all necessary and legal revenue documents,” said an official adding that of the 22 cases that have been settled in Anantnag District, 10 occupiers have to pay rent to the original owners of the land.
According to official records, five kanals of land in Thajiwara, Six kanal and 10 marla in Vesu, 18 marla in Akura village, have so far been vacated.
“In Srinagar district, 660 complaints of illegal encroachment and illegal purchase of properties belonging to Kashmiri Hindus were received and of these, 390 have been resolved and in 20 cases, while demarcating the land, notices have been issued to the illegal occupants,” official said adding that dozens of cases are disputed and are pending in the court.
“The complaints of falsification of revenue documents in 16 cases of property belonging to Kashmiri Hindus are true. These have been rectified, as well as action is being taken against the revenue officers and employees who have committed the wrong,” an official added and said that 18 complaints of forcible entry into the property of Kashmiri Hindus, paving the way have also been investigated.
