January 16 to be celebrated as ‘National Start-up Day’: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, January 15, interacted with more than 150 start-ups across sectors via video conferencing on Saturday. Each group will make a presentation before the PM on the various themes, which is being done to understand how start-ups can contribute to the national needs by driving innovation in the country. The event marks the 6th anniversary of the launch of the Startup India initiative.

January 16 will be celebrated as ‘National Start-up Day,’ said PM Modi at interaction with start-ups, today.

Further, he said that start-ups are going to be the backbone of new India. When India completes 100 years of independence, start-ups will have an important role. Country’s innovators are making the country proud globally.

He further noted that, “this decade is being called as ‘techade’ of India…to strengthen the innovation, entrepreneurship and start-up ecosystem have important aspects like liberating entrepreneurship, innovation from govt processes, bureaucratic silos.”

The event is a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, “Celebrating Innovation Ecosystem” and the Prime Minister is interacting with more than 150 startups on Saturday via video conferencing.

“Prime Minister has been a firm believer in the potential of start-ups to contribute significantly to the growth of the nation. The government has worked on providing an enabling atmosphere for boosting the growth and development of start-ups. This has had a tremendous impact on the start-up ecosystem in the country, and has led to a staggering growth of unicorns in the country,” an official statement said.
