Infrastructure development for better connectivity in North East is a priority, says FM Nirmala Sitharaman
The Union Government is focussing more on funding infrastructure development in the entire North Eastern area for better connectivity, said Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman in Guwahati.
The Finance Minister informed that Union Government is giving priority to development of National waterways in the country for their immense possibilities.
Sitharaman said that North Eastern states are the gateway to the entire South East Asian region and Union Government is attempting for better connectivity in this area, to improve tourism, informed Sitharaman.
The Minister said that government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fully committed towards Neighbourhood First and Act East Policy.
The Union Minister was addressing at the valedictory session of the 3rd Natural Allies in Development and Interdependence (NADI), 2022 conclave in Guwahati yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sarma said that Assam has a large potential for river connectivity and his government is working to tap this.
This third edition of international river conference was organised by the Shillong-based think tank Asian Confluence in collaboration with the Union External Affairs Ministry, Act East Policy Affairs Department of the Assam government and North Eastern Council.
Diplomats of several countries, top experts and scientists, and other dignitaries also attended the conclave.
