India women’s squad for 2022 World Cup announced; Mithali Raj to lead, Harmanpreet Kaur named deputy

- Mithali Raj has been named captain of the team for the showpiece event
- Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey are two names missing from the 15-member squad
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday (January 6) named the Indian women’s cricket team’s 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. Veteran Indian cricketer Mithali Raj was named captain of the team while right-handed batter Harmanpreet Kaur will be the vice-captain. Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey are two players who have been dropped for the showpiece event set to be held in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3.
In 2021, Rodrigues failed to impress in international cricket and Pandey didn’t look impressive either.
