India strongly condemns terrorist attack in Mali

India on Tuesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a camp of Malian Armed Forces in which twenty-seven Malian soldiers were killed.

In a statement released, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “India strongly condemns the barbaric terrorist attack on a camp of Malian Armed Forces on 4 March 2022 at Mondoro in the central region of Mopti in Mali that resulted in the killing of twenty-seven Malian soldiers.”

The Ministry further extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the speedy recovery of those injured in the dastardly terrorist attack.

Earlier on March 4, the Malian Armed Forces camp in Mondoro came under an attack, which killed at least 27 soldiers and wounded 33 more. According to the government statement, around seventy “terrorists” were killed in the military’s response.

Condemning the terrorist attack, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Mali and Head of MINUSMA, El-Ghassim Wane said, “In these painful circumstances, I present, on behalf of MINUSMA, my deepest condolences to the authorities of the Transition, to the Malian people as well as to the families and loved ones of the fallen Malian soldiers. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

Two UN Peacekeepers killed and four others injured in Mali

In other news, earlier on March 7, according to the United Nations release, two UN Peacekeepers killed and four others injured in Mali after their convoy hit an improvised explosive device north of Mopti.

In a statement, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali said the peacekeepers were part of a logistics convoy and were on their way to Timbuktu.
