India proposes to hold about 200 conferences for G-20 delegates across country after it assumes G-20 presidency in December, says G Kishen Reddy
Union Minister of Tourism and Culture G Kishen Reddy says India proposes to hold about 200 conferences for G-20 delegates at various places across the country after it assumes the G-20 presidency in December later this year.
He said up to 200 delegates from G-20 countries will be attending each of these conferences, which will provide them with an opportunity to experience India in its true form. The conferences will offer an excellent opportunity for the country to showcase its richness and culture.
The Minister was addressing a function at Vaikom in Kottayam district this morning, after unveiling the statue of Vaikom Padmanabha Pillai, who fought against the British.
Vaikom Padmanabha Pillai, was a key figure in a small group of people who infiltrated and attacked Tipu Sultan’s army and successfully made them retract. He was later made army chief by Veluthampi Dalawa, the Divan of the erstwhile princely state of Travancore. Pillai led an uprising against British control in Travancore and ambushed a party of British soldiers which resulted in the death of 13 soldiers. He was later captured and hanged by the British in 1809.
