India at Cannes: PM Modi wishes grand success to Cannes Film Festival

The most glamorous and grand Film Festival of the year is here! The 75th edition of the Cannes Film festival is all set to cater for the film enthusiasts who tend to enjoy an art form and share an ardent love for cinema. In a first, India will be the official ‘Country of Honour’ at the upcoming Marche’ Du Film and expressing his happiness over this achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a message, noted that India’s participation comes at the momentous meeting of celebration of 75 years of India’s independence, 75th anniversary of Cannes Film Festival and 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and France.

Positioning India as the largest film producing country in the world, the Prime Minister said that the multifariousness of our film sector is remarkable and that rich heritage and cultural diversity are our strengths. Indeed, India has a lot of stories to be told and PM rightly pointed out that the country truly possesses the immense potential to become the ‘Content Hub’ of the world.

Ease of Doing Business in the film sector is on the radar of the government and reiterating India’s commitment towards the same, PM, in his message said that from facilitating international film- coproduction to ensuring single-window clearance mechanism for permissions for filming across the country, India offers seamless possibilities to filmmakers of the world.

Celebration of Auteur Satayjit Ray continues

India’s celebration of the centenary of Satyajit Ray continues at Cannes as a remastered classic of Satyajit Ray’s – Pratidwandi will be screened at the Cannes Classic section Cinéma de la plage. PM Modi, in his message also expressed happiness that a Satyajit Ray film has been restored for screening in the Cannes Classic Section as India celebrates the birth centenary of the maestro.

A dedicated India Forum, One Hour Conference is being organised at the Main Stage, comprising of the leaders of the Entertainment Sector and would position “India as the content hub of the World”. The India Forum would be attended by hundreds of guests and would be live-streamed online.

India will be the official Country of Honour at the upcoming Marche’ du Film and this status ensures India’s presence as Focus Country at the Opening Night of Marche du Film being organised at the Majestic Beach with the spotlight on India, its cinema, its culture & heritage.
India is also a “Country of Honour at the Cannes Next, under which 5 new startups would be given an opportunity to pitch to the Audio-Visual Industry. Ten professionals will participate in the Animation Day networking. As a major highlight of India’s participation at this edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the World Premiere of the Movie “Rocketry” was produced by R. Madhavan is scheduled to be showcased at the Palais des Festivals of the market screening on the 19th of May 2022.
