In Mandi, PM takes jibe at opposition, says their model of work is ‘khud ka swarth, parivaar ka swarth’

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 11,000 crore, including Dhaula Sidh hydropower and Renukaji dam projects, at Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. He was accompanied by Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur.

Taking a jibe at the Congress party and the opposition, PM Modi said that there are two development models in Himachal Pradesh. “One is ‘Sabka saath, Sabka vikas & Sabka vishwas’. The other model is ‘Khud ka swarth, parivaar ka swarth’… Himachal Pradesh govt is working on the first model and has implemented many development programs in the state,” PM said.

Underlining that the Himachal Pradesh government has completed four years, PM Modi stressed the ‘double-engine’ growth carried out by his party. “The government fought against COVID-19 and also made sure that development works in the state do not stop,” PM said during the inauguration ceremony.

“The whole world is praising India for how our country is accelerating development while saving the environment. Our country is working continuously to make full use of every resource of renewable energy,” PM said.

Prior to the inauguration PM presided over the second groundbreaking ceremony of the Himachal Pradesh Global Investors’ Meet at Mandi. The Meet is expected to give a boost to investment in the region through the start of projects worth around Rs 28,000 crores

What the projects launched by PM Modi will mean for Himachal

“Prime Minister has constantly focussed on fully utilising the untapped potential of the resources available in the country,” the government said in a statement.

One of the steps in this regard has been to utilise optimally the hydropower potential in the Himalayan region. The projects which will be inaugurated and whose foundation stone will be laid by the Prime Minister during the visit reflect a key step in this direction, the statement added.

The 40 MW project will be built at a cost of around Rs 7000 crore. It will prove to be immensely beneficial for Delhi, which will be able to receive around 500 million cubic metre water supply per year.

“Lying pending for around three decades, the project was made possible through the vision of cooperative federalism of the Prime Minister, when six states viz Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi were brought together by the Centre for making the project possible,” the statement read

The Luhri Stage 1 Hydro Power Project will be built at a cost of over Rs 1800 crore. It will lead to the generation of over 750 million units of electricity per year. The modern and dependable grid support will prove beneficial to the surrounding states of the region as well.

The Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project will be the first hydropower project of the Hamirpur district. The 66 MW project will be built at a cost of over Rs 680 crore. It will lead to the generation of over 300 million units of electricity per year.

The Sawra-Kuddu Hydro Power Project, a 111 MW Project has been built at a cost of around Rs 2080 crore. It will lead to the generation of over 380 million units of electricity per year and help the state earn revenue worth over Rs 120 crore annually.
