In a boost to S&T cooperation, India & France sign MoU towards advancement in Human Health

In an important milestone in S&T Cooperation between India and France, an MoU has been signed between CSIR and Institut Pasteur with scope for cooperation in health research.

The meeting was attended by senior leadership from CSIR and Pasteur in the health care domain, a 14-member delegation from CSIR and DST, a 15-member delegation from Institut Pasteur, and over 10 representatives from the Indian and French legislatures, and External Affairs Ministry (Hybrid on the Indian side).

Significance:

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) and Institut Pasteur of France will collaborate in research and focus on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and inherited disorders, enabling the delivery of effective and affordable healthcare solutions not only for the people of India and France but for the global good.

The MoU calls for the development of potential scientific and technological cooperation and networking in advanced and emerging areas of Human Health between CSIR scientists and institutes/laboratories and the Institut Pasteur and its international network.

During the meeting, scientists recalled the initiation of this collaboration linkage in 2019 and the follow-up interactions in the joint workshop in 2020. They praised both sides’ intellectually young and enthusiastic workforces and indicated enormous opportunities for collaboration in identifying and developing new mechanisms and models in Cell Biology, Virology, Vaccine development, Infectious Diseases, Computational Biology, and Human Evolutionary Genetics research.

The Ambassador of India to France and the Embassy of India, represented by Deputy Chief of Mission, Dr. Praphullachandra Sharma, expressed their full support for this collaboration, which is focused on addressing issues in global human health – a necessity in the age of pandemic. Representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs and France backed the initiative and agreed to fully support the MoU.

2021: Year of Indo-French alliance towards a Greener Planet:

Last year, both countries launched the Indo-French Year of the Environment in New Delhi. The basic objective is to strengthen Indo-French cooperation in sustainable development, increase the effectiveness of actions in favor of global environment protection and give them greater visibility. It is also a platform for engaging in discussions on critical areas of collaboration relating to the environment and allied areas.

MoU between India & France in the field of energy efficiency/energy conservation:

In 2018, an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and France was signed in the field of energy efficiency/energy conservation. It involves knowledge exchange and cooperation in the nature of technical assistance which is leading to awareness creation on energy efficiency.
