IIT Delhi & IAF collaborate to accelerate Indigenisation to achieve self-reliance
Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi has joined hands with Indian Air Force, IAF in a remarkable and futuristic collaboration. An MoU has been signed between them with the aim of accelerating Indigenisation in order to achieve self-reliance.
The collaboration between IIT Delhi and IAF was made official with the signing of the MoU by Air Vice Marshal Samir V Borade VSM, Deputy Senior Maintenance Staff Officer (Dy SMSO), Headquarters Maintenance Command, IAF and Prof. M R Ravi, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi.
According to the official press release, the idea behind this collaboration is to focus on various developmental projects to support the requirements of IAF. Under the ambit of MoI, the IAF has now been able to identify key focus areas that involve and focus on technology development.
This further focuses on finding indigenous solutions for the adequate sustenance of various sorts of weapon systems. With such ideas and futuristic plans in place, it is expected that several projects will get a boost and benefit from this collaboration.
In order to aid the fulfillment of these ideas, IIT Delhi will extend its support to IAF by providing cooperation and consultancy. It will be enhanced by duly supported research for feasibility studies and prototype development. This collaboration will even enhance sustenance capability and help in obsolescence management.
IIT Delhi already has a Joint Advanced Technology Centre in place. It was established in 2017 with help and funding from Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO. Through this, many staff members and students are already working at many defence related projects.
