Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates three floating Border Outposts on Indo-Bangladesh Border
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated three floating Border Outposts (BOP) on the Indo-Bangladesh border on Thursday to protect the inaccessible areas of the Sundarbans. On the first day of his two day visit to West Bengal, the Union Home Minister also flagged off the floating Boat Ambulance and laid the foundation stone of ‘Maitri Sangrahalaya’.
The floating Border Outposts (BOP) Sutlej, Kaveri and Narmada have been built by the Koch Shipyard. Each BOP costs Rs. 38 crore and weighs around 53 thousand metric tonnes. The floating BOPs are equipped with modern facilities and safety equipment.
The front section of the BOP is bullet proof for the safety of the jawans. The BOPs can remain afloat with a DG set without refuelling for a month. A BOP is accompanied by 6 small boats and it has adequate arrangements to prevent both infiltration and smuggling.
Laying down the foundation stone of the ‘Friendship Museum’, Home Minister Amit Shah said that during the 1970s horrific human rights violations were committed in the neighbouring country.
At that time BSF and the Army defended human rights in that area with great valour. On the occasion of the golden jubilee year, the Friendship Museum will make it an everlasting memory.
