Hardeep Singh Puri dedicates 166 CNG stations across 14 states
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday virtually dedicated 166 Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, stations across 14 states of the country. These CNG stations have been set up by Gas Authority of India Limited and nine of its group city gas distribution companies.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Puri said that these CNG stations commissioned at the cost of 400 crore rupees will further strengthen the gas-based infrastructure and availability of cleaner fuel in the country. He emphasized that rollout of CNG on such a scale is expected to incentivise the market for CNG vehicles and will have exponential impact in terms of manufacturing, skill development and employment generation.
The Minister said that these CNG stations will provide direct employment to about one thousand persons. He also stated that the number of CNG stations will be ramped up to eight thousand in the next two years. Mr Puri said, currently the number of CNG stations have crossed 4500 as compared to 2014 when there were about 900 CNG stations across the country.
AIR Correspondent reports that these CNG stations have been set up by Gas Authority of India Limited and nine of its group city gas distribution companies across 14 states. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli, Secretary in the Ministry Pankaj Jain and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
