Govt not given direction to State govts/UT Administrations to issue new ration cards to NFSA beneficiaries under ONORC plan; Piyush Goyal in Lok Sabha

The Government today said, it has not given direction to State Governments and UT Administrations to issue new ration cards to the National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries under One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) plan.

Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal said however, as part of the ongoing Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) reforms under NFSA, the States and Union Territories were suggested to adopt a standard format of ration cards as and when they decide to print and issue new ration cards to the NFSA beneficiaries, for the sake of achieving Pan-India uniformity.

He said as such this is not a requirement for the implementation of technology-driven ONORC plan. Mr Goyal informed the House that presently ONORC plan is enabled in 35 states and UTs covering about 77 crore beneficiaries in the country.
