From vaccinations for children to third dose for senior citizens: Highlights of PM Modi’s address
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced an expansion of the ongoing vaccination drive to include children between the ages of 15-18 years.
- He also announced that senior citizens and co-morbid individuals would be able to get a third vaccine dose from January next year.
- As of Saturday morning, India has 77,032 active COVID-19 cases. The country has so far reported more than 400 cases of the newly detected Omicron variant of COVID-19.
New Delhi: As India’s Omicron tally continues to rise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Saturday.
Here are the highlights of his speech:
- India will start COVID-19 vaccination for 15-18-year-olds from January 3.
- Precaution dose of vaccine to be given to frontline and health care workers from Jan 10.
- Those above 60 years of age and with comorbidities can also avail of the ‘precaution dose’ of the COVID-19 vaccine based on the recommendation of their doctors.
- Emphasising that this was not a time to panic, the Prime Minister called upon people to be careful and to continue using masks and following hand sanitisation measures.
- The PM said that a nasal vaccine and the world’s first DNA vaccine would soon join the fight against COVID-19 in India.
- Modi said that over 90% of the eligible adult population had already received their first dose. More than 61% have gotten both doses, he added.
