Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurates Axis Bank Branches in North-Eastern states

Union Finance Minister and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman today inaugurated Axis Bank Branch at Mon district of Nagaland. This was Finance Minister’s maiden visit to Mon district. The Union Minister also virtually dedicated three other Axis Bank branches at Demow and Gohpur in Assam and Madanrting in Meghalaya.  

In a tweet, Ms. Sitharaman said, the branch will cater 26,000 strong population directly and is expected to have an extended catchment area of 2.5 lakh population. She said, the branch will provide the people of Mon with state-of-the-art services like online banking services, digital products, retail loans and improved business opportunities.

Ms. Sitharaman also said, the Axis Bank Branch in Demow village in Assam will cater to the needs of the tea plantation community while the one in Madanrting town in Meghalaya will serve as a strong connect of defence establishments and business communities with the bank’s financial services. Nagaland’s Rajya Sabha Member S. Phangnon Konyak, Secretary of Department of Financial Services Sanjay Malhotra, Managing Director of Axis Bank Amitabh Chaudhry and senior officials of the State  Government were also present on the occasion.

On her arrival back to Kohima, the Finance Minister will flag off Mobile ATM van of Nagaland Rural Bank funded by NABARD under the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF). She will also inaugurate the Banker’s Conclave and Credit Outreach Programme at Capital Cultural Hall Kohima, where she will launch new schemes and projects.

Ms. Sitharaman along with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will also jointly launch the CM’s Micro Finance initiative. Later, the Union Minister will visit Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Government Higher Secondary School Seikhazou in Kohima and interact with the students. During her visit to the school, Ms. Sitharaman will inspect an exhibits.
