Elon Musk buys Twitter for $44 Billion

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, locked a deal with Twitter, buying the social media platform for $44 Billion on Monday, April 25. Earlier, Elon Musk had refused to join the board of Twitter, however, he held 9.2% stake in the social media platform.

During the process of the deal, the SpaceX Founder and CEO had said that if the twitter bid succeeds, he will defeat the spam bots and authenticate all real human (April 22). The advocator of free speech, Elon Musk said that he hoped that even his worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means. 

Elon Musk started buying Twitter shares from January 2022 onwards. By March 14, he had over 5% stake in the company. However, Musk has also been vocal about the platform’s shortcomings. For instance, from March 24 onwards, he started criticizing Twitter for failing to adhere to free speech. “Worried about de facto bias in the Twitter algorithm having a major effect on the public; Twitter algorithm should be open source,” read one of his tweets. 

In addition to this, Musk has also in the past expressed concerns regarding the platform asking user if the platform was dying and also called out highest followed users for not posting on the platform enough. 

Musk refuses to join Twitter Board

Elon Musk had refused to join Twitter Board after which he had proposed to buy Twitter. On April 24, the board had a discussion with Musk where the latter’s financial details were presented. On the evening of April 25, the news of Elon Musk buying Twitter was confirmed by Twitter.
