A Report
Taking inspiration from its age-old values and traditions of living in harmony with Mother Nature, India has taken a series of measures and put forward its strong voice at global forums. Last year while addressing Climate conference in Glasgow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had highlighted India’s strong measures to fight against climate change and put forward the country’s future action plan.
Despite having 17 percent population of the world, India’s contribution in the carbon emissions is a mere 4 percent. The country’s  action to fight against climate change has drawn the attention of the world community. India is among the few countries that have delivered on climate action commitments. Recently, it has achieved ten percent ethanol blending in petrol five months ahead of its target.

With the mantra of One Sun, One World and One Grid, the country has played a crucial role in the establishment of the International Solar Alliance in 2015. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav said, while taking measures to promote green energy in the country, India has also taken steps to promote it at international level.

In the renewable energy sector, India is now at fourth global position for overall installed renewable energy capacity. In the last eight years, the country’s renewable energy installed capacity has increased to 286 percent. With an aim to make farmers from Annadata to Urjadata, the government has launched the PM Kusum scheme. Under the scheme, the government is providing financial assistance upto 50 percent for solar pumps and standalone pumps. Distinguished fellow in The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Ajay Shankar talked about this scheme saying it will help in doubling farmers’ income.
