Dharmendra Pradhan, Delhi LG present certificates to NDMC workers for completing RPL programme

Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Saturday presented certificates to New Delhi Municipal Council, NDMC workers for completing Recognition of Prior Learning, RPL, programme. RPL is a process used to evaluate a person’s existing skill sets, knowledge and experience gained either by working on-the-job or learning over the years.

To augment skill training in the NDMC jurisdiction, 900 candidates were trained in August under Skill India Mission for completing the RPL programme. The initiative is co-funded by NDMC and Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion SANKALP programme, a World Bank project under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The initiative was launched by the National Skill Development Corporation, NSDC, and was inaugurated by Mr. Saxena on 5th of August. It aims to upskill 25,000 workers in the first phase.

Congratulating all candidates on the occasion, Mr. Pradhan said, the initiative is yet another step in the direction to transform India into a five trillion dollar economy. He said, as India moves ahead with the resolve to fulfill the goal of Viksit Bharat, skill development assumes a critical role. The Minister said, such initiatives play a crucial role in enabling the workforce to contribute to nation-building and making India Aatmanirbhar. He also highlighted that skill development has become aspirational today and it’s imperative to move beyond traditional trades.

Mr. Saxena said that the RPL certificates will help the skilled trainees reach new height in their careers. He also stressed on the importance of upskilling the traditional artisans for creating a robust skill development system.

Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Secretary Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajesh Aggarwal, NDMC Chairperson Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Chief Operating Officer of National Skill Development Corporation Ved Mani Tiwari and other officials were present on the occasion.
