Defence Minister inaugrated Border Roads Organisation tourism website

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in a virtual ceremony inaugurated the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Tourism Website (https://marvels.bro.gov.in) in New Delhi on 24th March, 2021.

The “Tourism Website” has been developed by BRO to facilitate visitors, tourists, educational institutions, academia. Through this website, students can perform e-booking of guided tour of the infrastructure assets constructed by BRO. The web site will also exhibit relevant technical information for the scholars from engineering domains as well as provide information to the tourists about the unique aspects of the infrastructure & challenges faced by BRO in construction.

Further, the website will also include photo and video galleries of other tourist destinations, local flora and fauna and will also provide generic information about BRO and therefore the nature of works executed in border states.

BRO, over the last six decades has constructed over 60,000 Km of roads, 850 major bridges, 19 airstrips and four tunnels, thereby playing an essential role in nation building through infrastructure development in remote and inaccessible areas. This includes engineering wonders that have made the state proud, just like the “World’s Highest Motorable Road over Umling La (19,024 ft) in Eastern Ladakh” and “World’s Longest Tunnel within the World above 10,000 ft”, the 9.02 km long Atal Tunnel, Rohtang.

In the initial phase only e-Booking for guided Tour of Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, will be available through the portal. While addressing the event, Defence Minister stated that in the coming time, infrastructure projects in Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh etc. will be included for guided tours.

During the inauguration,the first ticket from the website was presented to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh by Director General Border Roads Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry. The DGBR mentioned that the website was user friendly and interactive, incorporating latest technologies, and was an initiative to enable the masses to conveniently plan a visit to the destinations that became popular among the tourists and therefore the academic fraternity.

Speaking on the occasion Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded BRO efforts in creating state of the art strategic infrastructure for the military, Air Force and Central Armed Police Forces in remote border areas and in friendly foreign countries. The minister specially complimented BRO for progressively evolving as a responsible & responsive organisation, wherein the record breaking effort towards opening of the strategic Zoji La pass was specifically mentioned.

He also appreciated the BRO initiative of launching the “Tourism Website” for the scholars & citizens of the country and exhorted all countrymen to go to the BRO engineering marvels which find mention in record books. He expressed confidence within the initiative being a hit by boosting and promoting tourism and contributing to growth and prosperity for the locals.
