Dawn of Development: North East Festival 2022 concludes

The North East Festival 2022 concluded on May 4, 2022. The closing ceremony of the Festival was graced by President Ram Nath Kovind. The festival also saw discussion and deliberation sessions meant to enhance the development of the North-Eastern region. 

President’s Message

President Ram Nath Kovind highlighted that key areas like agriculture, employment generation, skill development, connectivity and infrastructure, social services including health and education, and tourism development in the NER along with infrastructural development have witnessed a significant change.

President Ram Nath Kovind stated that the North-Eastern region has immense inherent strengths and appreciated its contribution to tourism, horticulture, handloom, and sports. He added that more efforts are needed to place the North-Eastern states on par with the industrially advanced states so that more jobs are created here. 

President Kovind said that with over 5,300 km of international borders with several neighboring countries, the North-Eastern region has a significant strategic value. The President also expressed happiness over the nation celebrating the freedom movement, recalling the valour and patriotism.

The Dawn of Development

The Minister for Development of the North-East Region, G. Kishan Reddy termed the Festival the ‘New Beginning and Dawn of Development’. He further added that the Festival will help give further momentum to growth and development in the North-Eastern Region.

Different festivals are being organized in line with Amrit Mahotsav celebrations in the North-Eastern states. In Sikkim, Futsal tournament was organized on the theme ‘ Drug-Free Society’. Similarly, in Manipur, a week-long regional sports meet was organized. With activities ranging from football, badminton, archery, and boxing, the events aimed to explore the sports love and potential of the youth in the NE states.
