Covid-19: With 8,865 cases in last 24 hours, India’s active caseload drops to 525-day low

India reported 8,865 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, confirmed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday. Apart from infections, 197 virus-related deaths and 11,971 recoveries were also registered in that time period across the country.

According to the Health Ministry, the total number of Covid-19 infections has reached 3,44,56,401 while 3,38,61,756 people have recovered from the deadly disease, leaving 1,30,793 active cases in the country.

The active case count has reached its 525-day low. The ministry said the daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 39 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 142 consecutive days now.

The active cases comprise 0.38 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.27 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, out of the 8,865 new cases, 11,971 recoveries and 197 deaths in the last 24 hours, Kerala alone has reported 4,547 new cases, 6,866 recoveries and 57 deaths.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 112.97 crore.
