Centre hopeful of some states imposing stock limits on edible oils next week: Food Secy.
The Centre has said it is hopeful that key oilseeds and edible oil producing states will start imposing stock limits from the next week, which will help in cooling down the prices and give relief to consumers during the festive season. Yesterday, Food Ministry has written letter to all state governments to refer to their previous stock limits order while finalising the quantity. The Ministry suggested the States and UTs to impose stock limits in such a way that no stakeholder like refiners, millers, wholesalers holds the stock in excess of two months of their storage capacity. A meeting with states has been convened on 25th of this month to review action taken so far on stock limit order.
On 8th of this month, Food Ministry had imposed stock limits on edible oils and oilseed up to 31st March next year. It had left it to the states to decide the stock limit of edible oil and oilseed on the basis of available stock and consumption pattern of State or Union Territory with a few exceptions.
