Australia’s Army Chief discusses Indo-pacific security during India’s visit
Australia’s Army Chief Lt Gen Richard Maxwell Burr, who is on the visit to India from 08 to 11 March 2022 called on India’s Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff along with other senior military officers and exchanged views on the present global situation and the situation in Indo-Pacific.
Interacting with Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General MM Naravane, the Australian Army Chief further discussed measures for enhancing defence cooperation between both armies.
Australia’s Army Chief also addressed the faculty and participants of the prestigious National Defence College and later interacted on regional security perspectives with the Vice Chief of Army Staff and the Director at Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi.
At CLAWS, the Australian Army Chief interacted with the Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Manoj Pande who is the Chairman, Board of Governors, CLAWS and Lt Gen (Dr) Ranbir Singh (Retd), Director CLAWS.
Australian Army Research Centre (Aarc) inks MoU with Centre for Land Warfare Studies (Claws), India
To establish academic cooperation and engagement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Australian Army Research Centre (AARC) and the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) on the side-lines of the visit. The visiting General was also briefed on CLAWS research activities and its outreach initiatives.
Australia’s Army Chief Lt Gen Richard Maxwell Burr will be visiting Indian Army formations and units deployed along Western Borders on 10th and 11th March 2022.
On February 2 2022, Chief of Army Staff General Naravane held a telephonic conversation with Lieutenant General Burr, where they discussed issues of bilateral defence cooperation.
Understanding CLAWS
Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) is the Indian Army’s think tank, which works on strategic studies and land warfare in the Indian context.
Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, CLAWS is a membership-based organisation and is governed by a Board of Governors and an Executive Council.
CLAWS has the mandate to cover national security issues, conventional military operations and sub-conventional warfare. The Centre also focuses on conflicts in the region and military developments in the Southern Asian region.
Notably, research at CLAWS is futuristic in outlook and policy-oriented in approach. CLAWS disseminates the products of its research to its members, members of the armed forces, decision-makers, members of the strategic community and interested civilians. The centre also seeks to contribute to developing a pro-active strategic culture for India
