Rajya Sabha passes The Constitution (SC/ST) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2022
The Rajya Sabha today passed the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2022 today. The Bill seeks to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 to omit Bhogta community from the list of Scheduled Castes in Jharkhand and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 for inclusion of certain communities in the lists of Scheduled Tribes in the State.
Replying to a discussion on the Bill, Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda said, the government is seriously looking into the recommendations of the different states with regard to inclusion of certain communities in the SC and ST lists.
He said, Centre has taken several steps for the welfare of SC and ST communities. He said, the emphasis has been laid on providing quality education to the students of ST community through the Eklavya Model schools.
Earlier participating in the discussion, Samir Oraon of BJP said, these communities will be benefited by their inclusion in the ST list.
Abir Ranjan Biswas of Trinamool Congress asked the Centre to look into the recommendation of West Bengal’s government related to inclusion of certain communities in the list of SC and ST.
Mamta Mohanta of BJD demanded inclusion of certain communities of Odisha in the list of ST. Dr. V. Sivadasan of CPI(M) said, financial assistance should be provided for the development of communities included in the list of SC and ST. Subhas Chandra Bose of YSR Congress, Prof. Manoj Kumar Jha of RJD, K Ravindra Kumar of TDP, Sanjay Singh of AAP and others also participated in the discussion.
