Yogi Adiyanath took oath as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second time in a row. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, all the chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states and several other union and state ministers, politicians and other dignitaries graced the occasion. Five women have been chosen to be part of the 52 ministers in the Adityanath cabinet.
Keshav Prasad Maurya has been sworn in as the deputy chief minister for the second time despite losing elections from his Sirathu assembly seat. Brajesh Pathak has been sworn in as deputy chief minister in place of Dinesh Sharma. Ex-Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya was also sworn in as minister.
The grand oath-taking ceremony was held at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, attended by more than 40 thousand people. Sanjay Nishad, President of Nishad Party also took an oath as minister in the UP Cabinet. Arvind Kumar Sharma who served as an IPS officer in Kanpur has been made a minister in Yogi 2.0 Cabinet. Jitin Prasada has also been given a birth in the UP Cabinet.
Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak has won from Lucknow Cantt assembly constituency defeating his nearest rival Surendra Singh Gandhi of Samajwadi Party by a margin of more than 39 thousand votes. In 2017, Pathak had won from Lucknow central assembly constituency on a BJP ticket. He was a cabinet minister in the first Yogi government also. Earlier, Pathak was in the Bahujan Samaj Party and served as an MP from Unnao Lok Sabha seat. He had joined the BJP ahead of 2017 UP assembly election.
In 2022 assembly elections, the BJP registered a thumping win in the state with around 41 percent vote share. NDA won 273 seats and SP with its allies won 125 seats. While, the BSP could win only one seat in the just concluded assembly election. In last around 35 years, for the first time a party has come back in power in succession.
